VEM motors GmbH (Wernigerode)

The Elektromotorenwerk Wernigerode began to produce motors in January 1947. In its first year the company produced a total of 200 electric motors. In the second half of the 1980`s annual production already stood at 350,000 units.



1938 Establishment of the predecessor company “Rautal-Werke”
1947 Establishment of the electric motor works; 200 employees, completion of the first 200 motors in this year
1948 Merger with the VVB Elektromaschinenbau
1951 The company is given a specified production range
1957 - 1959 Introduction of the DM product line, squirrel-cage and slipring motors from 1.6 to 10 kW
1963 - 1965 Introduction of the standard motor series KR and SR 5.5-100 kW
1970 Independent company within Kombinat Elektromaschinenbau
1971 - 1975 Introduction of the standard motor series KMR and SMR 5.5-110 kW (3rd generation) and achievement of international engineering standards in three-phase motors
1978 - 1982 Extension of the plant, construction of Hall V
1998 On a total surface area of 58,000 motors a year
1990 Converted into VEM Elektromotorenwerk Wernigerode GmbH

as a company of the VEM Antriebstechnik AG, restucturing and development of the production capacity into one of the most modern production facilities for electric motors in Europe

1997 Returned to private ownership and purchased by the business family Dr A. Merckle, Blaubeuren
1998 Extension of the product range of three-phase motors up to 500 kW, sale of the ten millionth motor
1999 Acquisition and founding of sales subsidiaries for VEM motors GmbH;

VEM motors Austria GmbH and VEM Norge AS (Norway)

2001 Founding of the sales subsidiary VEM motors U.K. Ltd.
2002 Opening representive office in the German Distribution Centre in Singapore
